Medical Equipment Testing and Calibration ensures that medical equipment is in full working order, and is calibrated to a known standard ensuring that the readings are accurate at the point of delivery to a patient in line with manufacturers tolerances. It is your responsibility as a medical professional to ensure that your medical equipment is in full working order and maintained through a schedule of annual calibration. If your establishment is a GP Surgery, Medical Centre, Hospital, Ambulance Service or Care Home then you will be subject to CQC (Care Quality Commission) inspections and auditing in which case you will be expected to evidence that your medical equipment calibration has taken place annually.
Ultimately the process of medical equipment calibration is ensuring as far as is reasonably possible that your medical equipment is fully functioning and accurate. The consequence of inaccurate medical equipment could be a misdiagnosis of a patient’s condition or misprescribing due to an inaccurate reading. Both of these consequences can have serious impacts. You have a responsibility to your patients and clients to ensure that your equipment is safe, accurate and reliable at the point of use.
It is important that you use an established, professional and audited company to complete medical equipment calibration at your establishment. Seal Calibration Ltd are ISO9001 accredited, issue UCAS traceable calibration certificates, are Safe Contractor approved and use experienced fully trained field-based calibration engineers who are all fully DBS checked.
Even if the piece of medical equipment is relatively new if a piece of equipment has been dropped or is vibrating or making any type of abstract noise. Or even if it has recently been transported are all reasons that an additional calibration prior to use should be carried out.
As of 2019 in addition to equipment calibration, it is an expectation in line with manufacturers guidelines that you have an annual full vaccine refrigerator service completed. This is a far more in-depth process than calibration of the thermometer display on the fridge, all functioning components are systematically checked and tested and a comprehensive certificate and service sheet is produced. A full fridge service from a Seal Calibration engineer also includes advice and training to staff about stocking, maintaining, setting and monitoring the fridge. Any changes to the usual routine are documented for future reference. Using a vaccine refrigerator in the most effective manner and preventing the motor on the fridge from unnecessarily overworking can undoubtedly prolong the working life of your fridge.
Other medical equipment that shouldn’t be overlooked from regular calibration and servicing would include items such as community-based defibrillators which for obvious reasons it is imperative to be in full working use should they be required in the case of an emergency. Occupational health establishments often use some of the more sensitive items of medical equipment such as Spirometers and Audiometers which we strongly recommend should be calibrated frequently. Many pharmacies have consultation rooms and vaccine fridges that should be maintained and hospices have a range of medical important equipment often the most important of which being syringe drivers and infusion pumps which should be serviced regularly.
Thank you !!! I have to say your team has impressed me immensely from the initial phone call to completion of the job. Your engineers were a joy to have in the building - polite, knowledgeable, conscientious, efficient, unobtrusive. NICE. Even our nurse commented - they are the best guys we have ever had I had every confidence in them and really appreciated the comments and advice they gave (things that no one else had picked up on). Look forward to more of the same next year. Again, grateful thanks to you all
I just wanted to write to say a big thank you to the young man who came to us yesterday to calibrate equipment. He was charming, helpful and worked really hard. He is a credit to your company.
I am just writing to say thank you for the excellent service given by one of your staff yesterday. I have to say he had a very difficult task in hand to get around a with medical equipment and a heavy weight to calibrate our scales. He did his job quietly and efficiently after a long drive from Nottingham, missing lunch and I just wanted to say well done!
Thank you, yes the calibration did run smoothly, your technician was very helpful. The HCA gave some feedback and we are grateful that he was so informative especially regarding the fridge.
Especially those that provide an amazing service as yourselves do.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for the calibration and PAT testing which your company did today. Your engineer who came was very efficient and very helpful and informative. We look forward to working with you next time.
Everyone here very impressed with the way the visit went, please commend the two technicians.
"Thank you Seal Calibration for completing our annual calibration and testing this year. William arrived very early to start the testing, which meant there wasn't any disruption to normal surgery time. He was very polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, which made the whole process run extremely smoothly, across the main and branch surgery."
Thank you and can I also add what an excellent service from your engineer. I have spoken with my practice managers colleagues in at other local practices who will be looking to use your company next year. mely professional

I would just like to say what a great service you have offered to our practice today and what a great engineer. It has been a pleasure using your company and I would be happy to refer you to other Practice Manage requirements.
Everything has gone well, the boys you sent were great. They were polite and approachable. Yes, that’s fine for next year, it will be easier for your guys to come in on one hit! I have told the nurses to contact you if they have any problems with their equipment e.g. ECG, 24 hr BP. Thanks.
Thank you for your email. I can confirm all has gone smoothly today – William is very organised a credit to the company. We look forward to seeing him next year!
William was really efficient and such a better experience than our calibration was last year.
